Cookies and local storage
Our website doesn’t track you. It only remembers two things on your device: what’s in your basket and the text size you chose. This page explains how, and what other companies are involved.
The short version
- We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. That’s why you won’t see a cookie banner.
- Our website doesn’t set any cookies of its own.
- It uses your browser’s local storage to remember your basket and your text size. Both stay on your device.
- Stripe sets its own cookies on its payment pages, to keep payments safe and prevent fraud.
- If we ever want to add analytics, we’ll ask you first.
1. What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small files that a website saves on your computer, tablet or phone. Many websites use them to recognise you and follow what you do, often for advertising.
Local storage is a similar feature built into your web browser. It lets a website remember something on your device, such as the items in your basket. Unlike cookies, it isn’t sent to the website every time you visit a page.
The law on cookies (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003) covers both.
2. What our website stores
Our website saves just two things in your browser’s local storage:
| Name | What it does | How long it stays |
|---|---|---|
| mw-basket-v2 | Remembers the pendants in your basket, including any engraving details you’ve typed, so they’re still there as you move between pages. | Until you remove the items or clear your browser’s storage |
| mw-text | Remembers the text size you chose with the text size buttons at the top of the page. | Until you choose the standard size again or clear your browser’s storage |
Both stay on your device. We don’t receive your basket until you go through checkout, and we never receive your text size setting.
3. Why we don’t ask for consent
The law says a website must ask before storing anything on your device, unless it’s strictly necessary for something you’ve asked for.
Your basket is needed so you can buy a pendant. Your text size is only saved because you pressed a button to choose it. Both count as strictly necessary, so we don’t need to ask first. As we don’t use anything else, we don’t need a cookie banner.
4. Other companies
Stripe
When you pay, you move to a secure payment page run by Stripe. Stripe sets its own cookies there to make the payment work and to help prevent fraud. You can read Stripe’s cookie policy.
Google Fonts
The lettering on our website comes from Google Fonts. Your browser fetches the fonts from Google, so Google receives your IP address. Google explains how it handles this in its Google Fonts privacy information.
jsDelivr
Our pendant pages show a 3D preview of your pendant. The software that draws it, called three.js, is fetched from a service called jsDelivr, which receives your IP address when this happens.
Our privacy policy has more about the companies we work with.
5. How to clear or block it
- To empty your basket, remove the items on the basket page.
- To reset your text size, choose the standard size with the text size buttons.
- To clear everything, use your browser’s settings. Look for an option to clear browsing data, cookies or site data, usually under Privacy or History.
If you use a shared or public computer, please empty your basket when you’ve finished, because it may contain the engraving details you typed.
If you block local storage in your browser, the basket won’t work. You can still order by calling us on 020 7183 0355.
6. If anything changes
If we ever want to add analytics or anything else that isn’t strictly necessary, we’ll ask for your consent first, with a clear choice to say no. We’ll update this page before we make any change.
7. Questions
If you have a question about cookies or local storage, email hello@mediwear.co.uk or call 020 7183 0355, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
