FAQ
Who we are
What is MediWear?
MediWear is a UK-based brand creating medical ID jewellery that people actually want to wear. Our pendants are designed to carry essential medical information clearly, helping emergency services act quickly while still looking and feeling like proper jewellery.
All MediWear pendants are made and engraved in the UK, with a focus on quality, clarity, and dignity. They are trusted by families who want peace of mind without compromising on style.
Why was MediWear created?
It all started with my grandmother, Majoon. She needed a medical ID, but nothing felt right – too bulky, too clinical, or tied to expensive subscriptions. She wanted something she’d feel comfortable and confident wearing every day. So we created MediWear: medical jewellery that’selegant and dignified.
Ordering & Customisation
Can I personalise my MediWear pendant?
Absolutely! Each pendant is made to carry your most important details, so it’s ready when you need it.
How do I place an order?
It’s easy – just pick your favourite design, enter your engraving details, and check out. We’ll take care of the rest!
What should I include on my engraving?
Include the information a paramedic needs immediately in an emergency. We usually recommend:
- Your full name
- Key medical conditions (for example T1D, Epilepsy, Pacemaker)
- Critical allergies
- An emergency contact (ICE)
- Your NHS number, if space allows
Short, recognised abbreviations are often best. They help more information fit clearly onto the pendant and are quickly understood by emergency services.
Can I order something completely bespoke?
Yes! If you have a custom request, email us at hello@mediwear.co.uk – we can help.
How MediWear helps in an emergency
How would paramedics know to check my pendant?
Paramedics are trained to look for medical ID jewellery as part of their initial checks. MediWear pendants are designed to be clearly identifiable, with a recognised medical symbol and clear engraving, so they can be spotted quickly in an emergency. When every second matters, having your key information visible and easy to read can make a real difference.
Can paramedics access my medical records using my NHS number?
Yes! Your NHS number allows authorised medical professionals to quickly access your Summary Care Record (SCR), which includes your key health details.
What if I have multiple health conditions – can I list them all?
Yes, as long as the information remains clear and easy to read. Paramedics need to understand your key conditions at a glance, so it’s best to prioritise the ones that would most affect emergency treatment.
Recognised medical abbreviations help multiple conditions fit neatly without overcrowding the engraving. You can also include a medical identifier, such as your NHS number, to help clinicians quickly access your records if needed. If space is limited, focus on the most critical conditions first, then your identifier.
Our engraving guidance can help you decide what to include and how to shorten it so everything stays clear and readable.
Will my pendant work outside the UK?
Yes, with some limitations. Medical ID jewellery is recognised worldwide, but how the information is used can vary by country, language, and local systems.
Clear, simple engravings and recognised medical abbreviations are most effective internationally, as they reduce reliance on spoken language. Conditions like T1D, Epilepsy, severe allergies, and devices such as pacemakers are widely understood by emergency clinicians.
An emergency contact number can also be valuable if local staff need clarification. UK-specific details, such as an NHS number, are most useful within the UK but do no harm being included if space allows.
If you travel regularly, it’s worth engraving the most universally recognised information first and keeping it as clear and concise as possible.
Shipping & Delivery
Do you ship internationally?
We currently ship within the UK only. International shipping is something we plan to introduce in the near future.
If you need a MediWear pendant delivered abroad in the meantime, please email us at hello@mediwear.co.uk and we will do our best to arrange this for you on a case-by-case basis.
Where are the pendants made?
All MediWear pendants are made entirely in the UK, in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Each piece is crafted and engraved locally by experienced jewellers, then carefully checked to ensure clarity, durability, and finish before it reaches you.
This keeps quality high, turnaround times reliable, and craftsmanship exactly where it should be.
How long will it take to receive my order?
Because every piece is made to order, please allow up to two weeks for delivery.
Product & Care
Are the pendants waterproof?
Our pendants are water-resistant for everyday wear, but we recommend keeping them away from prolonged exposure to water to preserve the engraving.
Will the engraving fade over time?
Our engraving is made to last. However, like all jewellery, natural wear and tear is normal over time.
Can I update my engraving in the future?
No. Once your pendant has been engraved, it cannot be changed. Engraving is permanent, which is what makes the information reliable and clearly readable in an emergency.
If your medical details change in the future, you would need to order a new pendant to ensure your information is accurate.
Gifting & Suitability
Is this a good gift for elderly relatives or vulnerable loved ones?
Yes. A MediWear pendant makes a thoughtful, practical gift for elderly relatives or vulnerable loved ones, turning important medical information into something they can wear with dignity and style. It offers peace of mind for you and reassurance for them.
If you’re not yet sure of the details, pendants can also be ordered without engraving. This allows you to gift the pendant first and have it engraved later by a local jeweller when the information is confirmed.
Is MediWear just for older people?
Not at all! Our pendants are designed for anyone who would get comfort from knowing they’ll be quickly identified by paramedics, from healthy people to allergy sufferers, to people with chronic conditions or disabilities.
Security & Privacy
Is my NHS number safe on a pendant?
Yes! Your NHS number alone doesn’t contain private medical information – it simply allows healthcare professionals to access your records. It’s more secure than listing specific conditions.
Will my details be shared with anyone?
No. We don’t store or share any personal data beyond what you submit for engraving.
Support & Returns
What if I make a mistake on my order?
Mistakes happen! Double check everything before placing your order, but if you spot an error, email us as soon as possible, and we’ll do our best to fix it before engraving.
What if I’m not happy with my order?
We want you to love your MediWear pendant. If there’s an issue, please get in touch, and we’ll work with you to make it right.
